In amongst the busyness of everyday - monitors alarming, hungry babies crying and pressure for tasks to be completed - it’s easy to get caught in a routine and become distracted from the wonder of a brand new life and, most importantly, from the One who created it.
Jesus created life
I’ve found there is little more precious than the simplicity of a brand-new babe wrapped in towels, eyes peering open for the very first time. How can anyone deny that such could be without a Creator!
According to the Bible, Jesus Christ, as one with the Father and the Holy Spirit, created human life, and that life was created in the image of God.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27).
The Scriptures teach that “all things were created through Him and for Him”. We are not here merely by chance or to fulfil our own desires. We are created in the image of the almighty God, for a purpose - to bring praise and glory to Him.
Jesus gives new life
Above all, the birth of a child brings joy, and the anticipation of a new beginning.
The Son of God, Jesus Christ, brought new life to many while here on earth. Throughout the Gospels we read of the love that He showed - He healed the sick, made the blind to see and the lame to walk, and even raised the dead to life.
But Jesus’ life here on earth brought the prospect of something far greater than physical healing. He offers eternal life through His death on the cross. If you trust Him for forgiveness and turn from your sin in repentance, you can have newness of life.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Jesus promises abundant life
A common slogan heard in our society is “live life to the fullest”. In fact, you can search online to find a range of self-help articles offering “101 ways to live your life to the fullest”. We tend to seek ultimate satisfaction in our lives from a variety of sources, often only longing for the next exciting thing to come along. It might be a new relationship, accelerating our career or even a holiday in the sun.
However, the Bible teaches that the joy that comes from this world is only for a season. It is temporary. Only God can truly satisfy.
“For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness” (Psalm 107:9).
If the current lockdown has shown us anything, it is that the things of this world are momentary. When these things are taken from us, what remains?
There is no denying the true joy that a precious new bundle may bring to many. Yet, the Lord Jesus offers something that is far greater than the fleeting happiness of the things on earth; the gift of eternal life bringing the joy of His presence with us now and the prospect of endless pleasure in eternity.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
