Authentic Christianity: What Does It Mean to Live as a Christian? (Ep 6)

Christianity is not simply about what we believe, it is about a new life that is to be lived. But what should that Christian life actually look like?

Authentic Christianity: What Does It Mean to Live as a Christian? (Ep 6)

Evangelical Christianity emphasises a personal relationship with Christ, nourished through Scripture, prayer, obedience, fellowship and witness. Roman Catholicism understands the Christian life particularly within the sacramental and liturgical life of the Church, centred upon the Mass and shaped by its sacraments, traditions and teaching. Eastern Orthodoxy places particular emphasis upon participation in the life of God, expressed through liturgy, prayer, fasting, repentance and the pursuit of theosis.

These traditions therefore offer significantly different understandings of how the Christian is formed and grows spiritually. What place should Scripture, prayer, worship, sacraments, fasting and the Church have in our daily lives? And how do we distinguish practices that have developed through centuries of Christian tradition from those established in the New Testament?

In the final episode of our series, Alasdair MacPherson and Ian Jackson consider what discipleship looks like within these different traditions and return to Scripture to ask a very practical question, what should characterise the life of someone who truly follows the Lord Jesus Christ?
